The Texan's Dad made a trip to Beaumont to survey the damage to home and business. The family home now needs a new roof and there's a little water in the house. Fortunately, they have no carpet in the house, so the current view is that although a new roof is needed, they won't have the unpleasant experience of ripping up stinking rotting carpet.
The business sustained a bit more damage, expensive heavy security doors were pushed in by the wind.
They won't be able to go back for a couple more weeks. National Guard are on duty keeping everyone out and electricity hasn't been restored.
The Texan's cousin was supposed to be getting married last weekend, but that had to be postponed - and she got married yesterday instead. Imagine trying to re-arrange a wedding a couple of days, calling everyone on your guest list, rearranging catering, cancelling the band, trying to get a new one. The way I remember it, arranging one wedding was quite bad enough. Still, I suppose these are trifling matters when you think of people who have lost everything to a hurricane.
